At home, Juanchy & Sabina cook each other dishes from their hometowns in Mexico & Puerto Rico. It’s been a romantic & culinary match from the start…

Guerrero, Mexico

Their Hometowns

Corozal, Puerto Rico

Juan Jesus, or as everyone calls him, “Juanchy,” grew up in Corozal, Puerto Rico. He takes pride in the dishes that are specific to Corozal; no one makes sofrito or tripletas like Puerto Rico!

Sabina Reyes Vargas grew up in Guerrero, Mexico, making tamales with her family from a young age. Her mom makes the best mole - that’s why she sends it to us to enjoy in VT all the way from Guerrero!

Muy Auténtico!

Sabina’s mom & dad make a delicious mole - subtly sweet with depth and heat. Her family’s mole, shipped all the way from Guerrero, is a secret ingredient in MexiRico’s Pork Tamales!

Hecho del Corazón

MexiRico has deep family roots and is proud to share delicious, family-made, authentic food from their hometowns with the communities in North Central Vermont.

A Match Made

2016

Juanchy & Sabina met while working at Pete’s Greens Farm in Craftsbury, VT. They had plenty of time to get to know one another working long days in the fields & in the washouse. Affectionately, Sabina began to cook Juanchy food from her hometown. At this point, Juanchy almost never cooked for himself! It was love at first bite & they soon married.

Every time Sabina’s family came to visit Vermont from Mexico, they taught Juanchy how to cook. Soon enough, he was able to make the Puerto Rican food he ate growing up for Sabina. As they swapped recipes from their home countries, they started cooking for other Latinos working on the farm, nostalgic for authentic, familiar eats. Their food was a hit and MexiRico Auténtico was born.
